# Business Search

> Search business content and get companies and people as entity cards.

<p style={{ fontSize: "0.8rem", opacity: 0.6 }}>For AI agents: <a href="https://docs.octen.ai/capabilities/business-search.md">docs.octen.ai/capabilities/business-search.md</a></p>

Answering one question about a company means opening a dozen pages: a profile site for the basics, a filing for the financials, LinkedIn for who runs it, a news story for what just happened. A model has to read all of them, and spend tokens on every one.

Octen Business Search searches the web for business content and returns the companies and people behind the query as entity cards, with the facts already extracted into fields.

For the full list of parameters, see the [Business Search API reference](/api-reference/business-search).

## Why Octen Business Search

* **Structured entity data.** The companies and people behind a query come back as fields: profile, identifiers, financials, key people, and career history.
* **Recent activity built in.** Every card comes with the latest posts and announcements from the entity's own channels.
* **Fewer tokens per answer.** One card covers what would otherwise take a dozen pages to piece together.

For general web pages, use [Web Search](/capabilities/web-search). For breaking coverage, use [News Search](/capabilities/news-search).

## How It Works

1. Send a query.
2. Octen searches its real-time index for business content and ranks the most relevant pages.
3. The response returns ranked results, each with a query-relevant highlight and optional full page content, plus an entity card for every company or person the query is about.

## Scenarios

### Company due diligence

One query returns the company card and the sources behind it.

```bash theme={null}
curl -X POST https://api.octen.ai/business-search \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -H "x-api-key: YOUR_API_KEY" \
  -d '{
    "query": "NVIDIA company overview"
  }'
```

### Look up a person

A person query returns a person card instead, with the current position and the career history.

```json theme={null}
{
  "query": "Lisa Su AMD CEO"
}
```

### Compare two companies

Name both companies in one query. Each comes back as its own card, with the same fields on both.

```json theme={null}
{
  "query": "compare Stripe and Adyen payment processing"
}
```

### Recent activity

Every card carries recent posts and announcements from the entity's own channels. Ask for more of them when you need a fuller timeline.

```json theme={null}
{
  "query": "Anthropic",
  "entities": { "max_activities": 10 }
}
```

### Results only

To work with a plain ranked list, turn entity cards off.

```json theme={null}
{
  "query": "semiconductor supply chain outlook",
  "entities": { "enable": false }
}
```

### Limit or steer your sources

Constrain the ranked results to outlets you trust. Entity cards draw on the full index.

```json theme={null}
{
  "query": "NVIDIA quarterly results",
  "include_domains": ["reuters.com", "bloomberg.com"]
}
```

### Get the original text

For the complete page text, turn on full content. Highlights stay on by default.

```json theme={null}
{
  "query": "NVIDIA quarterly results",
  "count": 8,
  "full_content": { "enable": true, "max_tokens": 4000 }
}
```

The full content of the first 10 results per search is free; only additional results are billed.
